Buy Computer Video Cards

From LoveToKnow Buy

If you are looking to upgrade PCs to improve performance on high intensive graphic software like PC games, applications, or videos, you need to buy computer video cards. Most current computers come with at least a basic video card of 32 MB to 128 MB of memory. This is sufficient for basic applications like Microsoft Word or Excel, but may not be the best if you work with demanding applications used for animation, graphics, games, or other heavy memory demanding programs.

What are Computer Video Cards?

Basically, the video card on your PC controls what you see on your monitor screen. Depending on the configuration of your computer, you should have some room for a better card. The upgrades you buy will be in the form of a computer chip board that can be placed in an expansion slot.

So what’s the difference between video cards? It is the speed of the RAM memory that allows your applications to run more efficiently. Better PC video performance results from faster chip and memory speed. It also follows that the higher performing cards (like DDR types) will cost more out of your pocket. For serious PC gamers, this is important since choppy, slow graphics can take the fun out of playing that intense new title.

Computer video cards not only are useful for games and software applications, but are great for hooking up a large TV, DVD player or VCR to your PC. RCA video or S-video in/out plugs also come with the card for easy setup.

How do you choose which video card you need to buy with so many brands to choose from? LoveToKnow Buy has narrowed the field and has found some of the best current ones available on the market.

  • Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX or GTS - This video card is one of the best if you are a heavy PC gamer who plays titles with high-intensive graphics. The GTX version has 768 MB of memory and has an extremely fast speed of 575 MHz. For this outstanding speed, expect to pay close to $600. The GTS version is a bit more reasonable in price at about $300, but you will have a bit less of memory (640 MB) and a little less speed than their counterpart.
  • The ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT The 2900 XT video card can give your PC games the newest Direct X with a boost of 512 MB memory and a decent amount of speed to keep graphics running smoothly. Not cheap, it will cost you about $400 for this upgrade.
  • Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT –Another good video card that will give your games and applications a boost. Equipped with 512 MB memory, it is a more cost efficient upgrade at about $200.
  • Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTC – If you are looking for a basic video card that can handle some graphic intensity, but are not a game freak, than this one may be the one to get. It has a modest 128 MB, and is compatible with the new Direct X 10. Pick up this one for around $179 dollars.

Installing the Video Card

After you buy computer video cards, the next step is installation. Whether or not you choose to install it depends on your confidence in working with the internal components of a computer. If you have some basic knowledge of a PC, you can probably put it in yourself with the directions that come with the card. However, if your technical knowledge is a bit lacking, ask one of your computer geek friends for a favor, or go to your local PC repair shop for help.

It is not an overwhelming challenge to buy computer video cards. Look at what kind of performance you are looking for on your PC, and ask yourself how much you would like to spend on it. With a little patience and a bit of basic PC knowledge, you’ll be enjoying those graphic intense games and applications in no time.
