1. Begin by making the trek to your local sporting goods store. If you know your shoe size, great. If not, have your foot measured by a salesperson, then tell the salesperson that you are looking for a pair of golfing shoes. 2. Don’t bother looking for golf shoes that have metal spikes on the bottom for traction—most courses don’t allow them anymore. Instead, search for golf shoes that have plastic prongs on the bottom. Try to find a pair that has replaceable prongs!
3. Look for a pair of golf shoes that have soft, pliable upper leathers. This is important because you don’t want to spend an inordinate amount of time breaking your shoes in. Allow for a comfortable amount of space in the toe area, and be sure the shoes provide good support for your arches.
4. Keep in mind that if you’re going to be playing golf in an area where it rains a lot, you’ll want to look for waterproof golf shoes. While you won’t actually be playing in the rain, there will be days where you hit the green only to find it quite damp from rain the night before.
5. Try to find a golf shoe to purchase that comes in a basic, traditional color (white or gray are your best bets). Keep the rest of your golfing wardrobe in mind when shopping for shoes, and try to envision what the golf shoes you’re considering purchasing will look like with the favorite pair of pants you wear when golfing.

Caution: Spikes

If golf shoes with metal spikes on the bottom are the only kind you want, call the golf courses you’re going to be playing at to inquire about whether or not they allow metal spikes on the green. You don’t want to get stuck with golf shoes you cannot use at the course you love to play on!
