How to Buy Men's Sleepwear
From LoveToKnow Buy
We spend about a third of our lives sleeping, and our bodies nourish and revitalize themselves during those nightly sessions. What you wear to sleep can make all the difference – read on for some basics you need to keep in mind when choosing sleepwear.
Tips for buying men's sleepwear
- First the materials. You can choose sleepwear made from cotton, polyester, nylon, silk, wool and some blends made from combinations of these. Cotton is the most comfortable material since it allows your body to breathe. Some people prefer silk for its sensuous feel, though it can be a trifle warm when there is no air conditioner around. Nylon and wool work well in colder climates as they are body hugging fabrics that keep heat in. In general, cotton is the coolest, flannel a little warmer and silk and polyester the warmest.
- We all know of the pajama suit combinations - these feature a loose fitting shirt type of an upper garment normally with a collar and loose pajama pants that are long or and come with or without pockets. Other options include robes, with or without collars, boxer shorts (preferred by many in the 25-40 age group), long and short gowns and in many cases, simply an oversized T-shirt.
- Dress according to your tastes and lifestyle. If you prefer a cold environment and the air conditioner is always set to maximum, you may want to choose sleepwear made form wool or other warming materials like silk. Other factors would be your personal tastes and choices. Some people like wearing close fitting clothes in all weather, others prefer to sleep in the buff, so go for whatever gives you the greatest comfort.
- Sleepwear on the whole should always be loose fitting and made from natural materials if possible. Some of the better brands now ensure that there are no seams, or very few seams so that irritation is reduced significantly. Try and avoid pockets and flaps and add-ons that may get stuck or irritate you in some other manner in your sleep. It is best to choose a simple design with as little embellishment as possible.
- Some manufacturers also offer pajamas and sleepwear geared to specific outdoor scenarios like camping in the mountains, hiking trips and so on. Such clothing is usually made form double knits and from synthetic materials.
Caution
Try and avoid wearing synthetic materials that are very close fitting. Your body needs to be free and unrestricted during sleep and you should ensure that the sleepwear has no constrictions like tight waistbands.
