How to Buy Tennis Lessons

From LoveToKnow Buy

Badminton has for you become a sport of the wusses, and now you’re feeling ready and pumped to get in touch with your inner-Agassi. Problem is you have very little experience connecting tennis racquet to tennis ball. Follow our advice on how to get tennis lessons and you’ll be in the swing of things in no time.

How to Buy Tennis Lessons

Tips for buying tennis lessons

  1. One of the first things you should do is look up the word “tennis” in your local yellow pages. You’ll find listings for tennis courts, tennis clubs and most importantly, tennis instruction. Make a list of all the tennis instruction businesses you come across, taking note of addresses and phone numbers. Also do a search online for tennis lessons in your area.
  2. Call the tennis instruction businesses you’ve found, and inquire about classes, rates, one-on-one instruction, and items needed for lessons (in some cases you may need to bring your own racquet, in others, the racquet will be provided for you, or you will rent it).
  3. Depending on what you want (private or group lessons), make a reservation to take part in a tennis instruction class or private session. Talk to employee of the tennis center about items you need to bring, clothes you should wear and which types of payment are accepted for the lessons.
  4. Be absolutely sure you want the tennis lessons you’re ready to pay for. If the lessons fall on Saturday mornings at 8am, and you’re someone who likes to sleep in on the weekends, consider finding lessons that fall on a different day and time of the week.
  5. Warm up (i.e. stretch and do cardiovascular exercise) before going in for a lesson—your body will need to be loosened up if you plan on keeping up with your tennis instructor! Pay close attention to the moves he/she guides you through, and be sure to practice whatever take-home assignments you’re given.
  6. Of course there are many ways to get tennis instruction without having to be taught by an actual person. If you’re schedule is inconsistent and you can’t commit to a weekly or bi-weekly lesson, consider purchasing a tennis instruction DVD, video or book.

Caution

Be well aware of the skill level you’re at before purchasing tennis lessons. For instance, if you’re just starting out, be absolutely sure you don’t place yourself in a tennis class with intermediate to advanced tennis players!
