How to Buy Women's Dress Shoes
From LoveToKnow Buy
Dress shoes - we all have at least a couple of pairs at home. Read on to discover what you need to keep in mind aside from the good looks of the shoes the next time you go dress shoe shopping.
Tips for buying women's dress shoes
- Always check the measurement of both feet. Most of us remember our shoe size from somewhere in our early college days and never bother to have it checked after that. Remember that both of our feet are never really the same exact size. Ask the store assistant to measure both of your feet and choose shoes that feel comfortable on the larger foot. Also, remember that shoes made by different manufacturers will all have different sizes and a size 5 of 'X' brand will fit differently than a size 5 from 'Y' brand.
- Make sure you use the same type of socks or nylons that you plan to wear with the new dress shoes. Do not use the pair of socks available at the store to check the fitting of the shoes - even a small change in the thickness of the socks can change the fitting of the shoe significantly. It is also recommended to go shoe shopping in the evening as our feet expand during the day, and the shoes that fit well in the late afternoon will typically also feel comfortable at all other times.
- Pay a lot of attention to the fitting. Put on both the shoes and walk around the store. See that there is no pinching of your toes or at the heels. The instep should be comfortable and the heels should not feel like you are performing a balancing act!
- Check the shoes for any folds that appear at the joint between the uppers and the soles. If you plan to wear those shoes for long hours, make sure that the inner lining is made of leather. Among all the natural and synthetic liners being used today, leather allows your feet to breathe and absorbs moisture best. See that the inner portion has a complete and full lining that is fixed to the shoe leather so that you don't end up with torn inner linings after some time.
- What you pay for is what you get. If going for high heels or stilettos, try and buy the best that you can afford. Premium shoes will be made form stronger and better materials and will also provide you with long-term comfort.
Caution
Go for the latest styles, but make sure that they also fit well! That pair of patent leather pumps that looks so attractive with the little bows may turn out to be a nightmare to wear - always judge the shoes from their fit and not their appearance.
