How to Buy a Stroller
From LoveToKnow Buy
Strollers come in all shapes and sizes. There seem to be almost as many brands and models as there are for cars! A good stroller should last a few years, until well after your child can walk. Use these tips to pick the right one for your lifestyle and needs.
Decide how you'll use it
Think about how you will use the stroller. Where you use a stroller should influence the type of stroller you purchase. If you will mainly use the stroller to wheel the baby around while you shop, then you may want a car seat stroller, which essentially allows a baby’s car seat to be attached to the stroller frame and wheels. If you actually want to stroll with your stroller, then a sturdier stroller with double wheels and a durable frame is a good choice. This type will withstand maneuvering over curbs and uneven sidewalks. Finally, if you are an avid jogger, consider the three wheel jogging strollers.
Budget on features
Your budget will be a factor. Lightweight strollers, a basic kind with curved handles, are the least expensive. This means they come with the least features. Jogging strollers, on the other hand, can be expensive.
If you have two young children who are close in age, or twins, you will want to consider a multiple occupancy stroller. These are wider strollers with two seats, usually side-by-side, or sometimes with one in front of the other. You can also buy a three-seater should you have triplets, or a toddler and twins.
Any stroller, whether inexpensive or costly, should have basic features. Brakes are important if you ride the bus and every time you stop to talk or look at something, you want to be able to keep the stroller from rolling away. The stroller should also be easy to maneuver. You shouldn’t have to struggle to push forward, pull backwards or turn. Also consider the weight of the stroller if you will be frequently packing and unpacking it out of a your car.
Extra features found on more expensive strollers might include a canopy to keep the sun or rain off your child. Adjustable handles enable you to adjust the right height when pushing the stroller. A basket enables you to store a diaper bag and purse.
Caution
Before you buy a stroller, check the frame for sharp edges or uncapped ends. Also make sure that the stroller will only fold or collapse when you want it to.
