The truth is that the retailers in all states are supposed to report to the state who they sold the cigars to. However, the ability for the states to coordinate a mass tax is unlikely because they have a lot of higher priorities.

I personally get my discount cigars at TexCigars. They have great service and a huge selection of cigars.

Jim, This is definitely a legitimate concern. It looks like the odds are very high that you will have to pay the California state taxes on the cigars at some point, even if you order online, so be prepared. There's an article on Wired.com that may offer a bit of insight. There's also an article on Cigar Aficionado you may find interesting. Please check your state's tax laws before ordering cigars online to find out more about what you'll be required to pay.

I really enjoyed your website, very informative. I live in California and am considering buying cigars online. My biggest concern is getting nailed for state tax after being on someone's mailing list. Any advice on this I would surely appreciate. It's no fun having BIG BROTHER targeting your backside! Thanks in advance. Jim.
