Darlyne, thanks for your inquiry. According to the Macy's website, the first number is the percentage of chrome added and the second one refers to the percentage of nickel.

This article told me mostly what I already know, and the reason I read it was to see what the "80/____" on the box or advertisement - I think it's the weight or percentage of an alloy, but am not sure.

I just have a comment about the "Patterns for a Lifetime" by Oneida. Their guarantee is not really true; we registered for one of their Lifetime Patterns for our wedding. Less than 5 years later, they completely discontinued the pattern - all they are selling is what they have in stock. So much for the "Lifetime" part.
