-- Contributed by: CrystalSchwankeEven if you don't knit socks, double-pointed needles are good to have. I used them in several different sizes before I ever touched a sock. You'll need them for making i-cord, mittens, the tops of hats... To say you'll "never" use them unless you knit socks is just ignorant.
