Walmart will install a battery for free if you purchase it there. Not sure if all Walmarts have tire/oil/battery service facilities though.

I am buying a new battery and this article was beyond informative! I must disagree though with the mentioning of the Exide battery. The batteries are horrible and they do not stick to there guarateed warranty. They give you a horrible run around and they will even advise you to return to the dealership. Even if you do they tell you to contact Exide directly.

Johnson Controls manufactures a majority of the batteries available in the US market: Sears DieHard Gold, Walmart EverStart, AutoZone DuraLast, Costco Kirkland Signature, Ford MotorCraft, Optima, Pep Boys ProStart, ACDelco, Interstate and Champion. Their competition, Exide, manufactures Marathon and Napa. Most batteries are comparable to each other with the exception of the premium Optima lineup (be warned, these performance batteries are expensive). Within the same size group, different retail models will carry different CCA's, reserves, and warrantees (ie: DieHard Gold, DieHard WeatherHandler, DieHard SUV, DieHard Platinum, etc. are available as Group 65 Ford compatible batteries, but they have different performance features.)
